Mesquite
Broiled Steaks Come to Texas!
Mesquite broiled steaks were born in Texas in 1955 thanks
to Gene Dunston, who has been serving these great tasting
steaks at affordable prices for nearly 50 years. His original
steak house on Harry Hines has been a popular Dallas mainstay
ever since.
In
1969, Gene and his sister Judy decided to open a second location
and a perfect spot on Lovers Lane near the Park Cities was
chosen. With her three daughters, Cheri, Diana and Cindi by
her side, Judy gave it her all and turned the restaurant into
the comfortable, family atmosphere it still retains today.
All three girls have worked at the restaurant throughout the
years and Cheri has continued on as General Manager. Over
the years, other family members could be spotted at different
times, and now grandson Shane, granddaughter Julia and Judy's
sister Shirley are part of the family owned and operated business.
For over 39 years at the same location with the original owners,
excellent food and excellent service this family venture has
become a Dallas and Park Cities tradition. Warm, inviting,
and decorated by Judy with contributions from many customers
over the years, Dunston's Steak House & Bar has become
a favorite for steak lovers. Its convenient location between
Inwood and the Tollway makes it easily accessible from everywhere.
And the highly popular back room bar with ample dining tables
is the favorite eating spot for many Dallas and Park Cities
regulars. Once you've been there a few times, you'll find
the rear entrance, a favorite of those in the know, and will
quickly become one of the regulars, too!
While the primary decorating scheme was the original creation
of Judy, she is quick to point out that the majority of the
decorations adorning Dunston's walls, bookcases, and shelves
came from the customers. You'll find a unique collection at
Dunston's, ranging from a beautiful blue marlin to plaques,
trophies, sayings, and memorabilia from all over the world.
Judy says she will hang it if you bring it!

The
other thing you will find at Dunston's is fabulous food!
Tenderloins, sirloins, ribeyes, T-Bones, and prime rib, grilled
to perfection over open pit mesquite grills. There's also
great home cooking favorites like Chicken Fried Steak, Red
Beans & Rice, and Beef Stew with Cornbread. Dunston's
is nearly as well known for its wide selection of country
cookin' as it is for its mesquite broiled steaks.
There are also Daily Specials to choose from. On any given
day, you might find Salmon Croquette with Cheese Sauce, Meat
Loaf, or Lemon Peppered Orange Roughy. And in addition to
these and other great dishes, there's always a steak or two
on the daily specials menu.
