Gene
Dunston is the man responsible for bringing mesquite broiled
steaks to Texas in the mid-1950's. He succeeded by combining
a great tasting steak with an affordable price and he has
continued to do just that with his original location on Harry
Hines Boulevard for almost 50 years. In the early days, you'd
find Gene cutting mesquite by day and grilling steaks by night.
But that's a whole story in itself! [Dunston's
History...]
In
1998, Gene considered renovating Dunston's like he had done
several times in the past. But this time, he made the decision
to completely rebuild. At the same time, he decided to add
something new to his menu - prime beef.
"I've always wanted to mesquite grill prime steaks and sell
them at a price that won't put a hole in your pocket," says
Gene. And that's just what he did.
The new Dunston's Prime Steakhouse has the look and feel of
a comfortable, high-end steakhouse without the high prices.
You'll find plenty of USDA "Prime" steaks on the
menu right along with many of the original choice cuts. Also
making the transition to the new building are the traditional
home cooked favorites like Chicken Fried Ribeye, Fried Catfish
and the Homemade Enchiladas with Rice and Beans that Dunston's
is famous for.
So if you're up for a great meal at a great price, visit the
"new" Dunston's Prime Steakhouse for one of Gene's
famous and delicious mesquite grilled steaks!
